The Art of Capturing the Ephemeral

Watercolour is an art of the moment, of transparency and of the unexpected. Water carries the pigments, colours meet and mingle, and contours begin to dissolve. Nothing is ever entirely under control. It is precisely within this realm of uncertainty that its freedom resides.

In my work, watercolour is a natural extension of the traveller’s gaze. It accompanies me through the places I encounter, their architecture, landscapes and fleeting scenes gathered along the way. Sometimes, a few lines, a particular light or a single colour are enough to capture the essence of a place, reaching far beyond its mere appearance.

My aim is not so much to reproduce reality faithfully as to preserve the sensation it evokes. Watercolour then becomes a form of immediate memory, a delicate trace in which observation, emotion and interpretation intertwine. The gesture remains free, sometimes deliberately unfinished, allowing water and paper to play their own part in the act of creation.

Each watercolour is thus a fragment of a journey, but also a fragment of time. A way of holding on to what passes, while accepting that something will always remain beyond our grasp.
